Admission Requirements

Master's Degrees

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited instituion
    • Copies of official transcripts from all prior institutions where you have received college credit after high school:
      • Electronic transcripts are preferred, but must be submitted by the institution
    • We look for a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
    • You can have any degree background to apply for the program
      • If you studied Music Business as an undergraduate, please contact an enrollment advsior before applying to the Master of Music in Music Business program.
  • Three (3) Letters of Recommendation
    • Must be submitted by people who can speak to your work in music and your potential as a graduate student. The letters can be on the letterhead of the individuals providing the recommendations or they can be submitted on forms available on the CollegeNet application.
    • The letters must be originals that are submitted by the recommenders. The letters cannot be submitted by you.
  • Statement of Purpose/Essay
    • This is a component of the online application via CollegeNet, and allows applicants to provide information on career objectives and an overview of why the master's degree program is well-suited for them.
  • Resume - submitted via CollegeNet
  • Work Experience – Music industry experience is desirable but not required
  • The GRE is not required to apply, but may be required based on an evaluation of applicant's academic and professional background
    • For example: if your GPA is below 3.0
  • International Applicants:
    • TOEFL/IELTS Exams: Test scores are required for international applicants whose native language is not English and who have not received a degree from an accredited English-speaking institution.
      TOEFL and IELTS scores are only valid for a period of two years. The Frost School of Music requires applicants to receive a minimum TOEFL score of 80 or a minimum IELTS score of 6.5. The TOEFL codes for UM are as follows: Institution Code R5815, Department Code 2404.
    • Transcript Evaluation:
      Josef Silny & Associates (JS&A), Inc. International Education Consultants, is the preferred evaluation service for international applicants to the University of Miami due to their competitive prices and high-quality service.       Please note that international applicants are not required to use the services of JS&A or WES exclusively, but the University of Miami requires that an international credential evaluation must be done by one of the approved evaluation vendors found on this list.
      Applicants are responsible for the evaluation fee

Certificate Programs

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited instituion

  • No GMAT or GRE tests required
  • One Letter of Recommendation - submitted via CollegeNet

  • Must complete all three designated courses of the certificate within two years and earn a minimum combined GPA or 2.5 and no less than a C- in any one course.
  • International Applicants:
